Meet Our Team
James Lucas, Principal
Jim graduated from the University of Minnesota, College of Liberal Arts, with a degree in psychology. After five years of active duty in the U.S. Navy, he entered the insurance industry in 1977. Jim began his career with individual products and soon recognized a need for group products to benefit employees. This was the catalyst for Benefits Plus, LLC, formed to offer benefits through the finest insurance companies. Jim’s professional designations include Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Certified in Long Term Care (CLTC).
In addition to running the business, Jim is an active member of the Bloomington Rotary Club, the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, and Minnesota Valley Country Club. He enthusiastically fundraises for San Miguel Middle School, Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School, and several other non-profit organizations. During his free time, Jim plays golf and travels to Florida with his wife, Dolores, and daughters, Michelle, Nicole, and Melissa.
Christine Gensmer, Group Specialist

Christine graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead, with a degree in English, French, and communications. She then went on to become a Master of Arts candidate at the University of Minnesota before entering the world of publishing as an editor and author. Prior to joining the Benefits Plus, LLC, team in 2003, Christine was a human resources assistant, customer service trainer, and customer service manager with a major credit card company.
Christine is an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 5462 in Waconia. She volunteers at her daughter’s elementary school and summer culture camp. Christine spends much of her spare time enjoying the lakes of Minnesota with her husband, Terry, and daughter, Annika. She also travels to France with her mother on an annual basis, loves to cook, and takes walks with her dog, Daisy.
Dolores Lucas, Office Administrator
Dolores graduated from George Mason University with a degree in sociology. Prior to her career with Benefits Plus, LLC, she was a legal assistant and a realtor.
Dolores dedicates a tremendous amount of time to volunteer work. The organizations she supports include St. Patrick’s Church in Edina, Habitat for Humanity, TASKS, and the Bloomington Rotary. She is close to her three daughters, Michelle, Nicole, and Melissa, and in her spare time enjoys walking and reading. Along with her husband, Jim, Dolores is an avid lover of the Florida beaches.
